Arlington
Elementary & Martin Luther King Jr.
&
Our group went around our school
to interview and report about what people think about MLK. Here are the
questions we asked:
1.) What effect has the MLK movement
had on you?
2.) What do you think about racism?
3.) What do you think it would be
like if MLK had not been born?
-
First we asked our principal Dr. Black,
"What effect has the MLK movement had on you?" One of her responses was
"It
was just a great thing to happen." She was so emotionaly moved by thinking
about it and talking about it that she even shed a few tears. She also
said, "His speeches were so imporatant that it was not unusual to see
him on national television. When MLK was assasinated, even though he was
gone, everyone thought that all his hard work would just stop, but really
everyone kept on working to achieve a greater goal."
-
We asked our 6th grade teacher, Miss
Rooney, what effect MLK had on her. Her response was, "MLK made our
world a better place by opening many eyes to the wrongs of racism and segregation.
His work greatly helped our nation to create a place of equality and freedom
for all Americans."
-
Then we asked our teacher, Mr. Neiswanger,
what he thought about racism. He said,"Well, it's very bad. Racism has
hurt America's potential."
-
We asked a fourth grade teacher at
our school, Ms. Cobb, what she thinks it would be like if Martin Luther
King was never born. She said, "I think the Civil Rights Movement would
have been hindered, and equality issues would be more prevalent."
-
We asked another fourth grade teacher,
Ms. Paflas, what effect MLK had on her life. "I live in a better world
with more equality," she answered.
-
We asked Miss Snyder, a fifth grade
teacher at our school, what she thought about racism. She answered, "I
think it is ignorant, and I just don't understand it."
-
Then we asked Mrs. Shedlak, the other
fifth grade teacher at our school, what effect MLK had on her. She replied,
"We
live in a world with more equality and peace."
