It is time for the first project of the year! The students will be making and labeling a salt map of Indiana. The following information should be helpful. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions.

Recipe: Mix ¼ cup salt

¼ cup flour

Trace the Indiana map onto a substantial piece of cardboard.

Slowly fill in the three major regions with the paste. Try to allow for elevation differences.

While the paste is wet, label the following:

      1. Bloomington, Gary, Corydon, South Bend
      2. Indianapolis (*Capital)
      3. Wabash, White, and Ohio Rivers
      4. Lake Michigan
      5. The bordering states (on the cardboard)
      6. Make a compass rose (on the cardboard)
      7. Make a key to identify the regions

The students may use flags made of toothpicks or the key to identify places and landmarks.

Please assist your child, but he or she needs to do the project. Chapters one and two in the book will be helpful. Have fun!!
